Running an Access application over a Virtual Private Network
Are there any issues when running an Access application over a VPN?
I have a multi-user application running in such a situation and the IT company supporting my client is claiming that Access can not be used over a VPN. There are 2 people in the organisation who have used the application quite successfully over the VPN but there is one office location that is having an issue.
The IT company is suggesting Terminal Services as an alternative but that will be very costly to implement.
Any guidance you can offer would be most appreciated.
Regards,
Joanne

Hello Joanne,
Thank you for your inquiry. It may work for small databases. In our experience, we do not use VPN to run front-end databases with a back-end database on the network since performance is slow. We do use VPN to remote to a desktop in our internal network and run that PC or use Terminal Services/RemoteApp. We discuss that here: http://fmsinc.com/MicrosoftAccess/terminal-services/remoteapp.htm

Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Network & internet. VPN. If you can't find it, search for "VPN." If you still can't find it, get help from your device manufacturer.
Tap the VPN you want.
Enter your username and password.
Tap Connect. If you use a VPN app, the app opens.Regards,
