Background
Total Access Startup guarantees that your users always launch the right version of Microsoft® Access® with the right version of your Access database.
Problem
After installation, when you try to run the Total Access Startup administrator, it fails to run with this message:
Total Access Startup could not be activated. Installation problem. Please reinstall. You may need to reinstall the program.
Cause
This may occur if Total Access Startup was already installed on a Windows 7 or Vista machine with another serial number. The problem is due to a bug that affects the virtual store in the registry.
Solution
Microsoft discusses the issue here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/927387 in the section with steps to: Delete the virtual store from the registry:
To locate the virtual store in the registry and to remove any unnecessary keys, follow these steps:
- Run regedit.exe
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Wow6432Node\FMS\Total Access Startup\16.0
- Right-click the key, click Delete, then click Yes.
Run the Total Access Startup again. No need to reinstall.
