Background
Total Access Emailer is the world's most popular Microsoft Access email add-in product and VBA code library. Simplify the way you communicate with your contacts, and easily share the data and reports from your Microsoft Access databases with personalized emails for each recipient.
Problem
When I use the free Gmail SMTP service, the FROM address becomes my Gmail address instead of the one I specified in the settings.
Solution
This is a limitation of the free Gmail service. The free Gmail service only lets you send emails through their SMTP server using your Gmail address as your FROM address (even if you have specified a different FROM address in the Total Access Emailer settings).
If you would like to have the option to use a custom FROM address, your SMTP server must allow this. Other options include:
Microsoft Office 365 Subscription
Microsoft Office 365 offers an SMTP server as part of the subscription options. More information on Office 365 can be found on their pricing page.
Network Mail Server
Microsoft Exchange offers support for SMTP and allows you to send emails with different FROM addresses if Relay is enabled on the mail server. If the mail server requires SSL for authentication, you must enter the username and password.
Microsoft Windows Server Internet Information Services SMTP
You can set up an IIS SMTP server (this requires Windows Server) and allow it to relay to ensure your configurations are correct. The versions of Windows which offer local support for IIS SMTP include:
- Windows Server 2008 / R2
- Windows Server 2012 / R2
