FMS products comply with Windows and Office security protocol to the extent possible. There are differences among the products we provide.
All Setup Programs are Digitally Signed
We provide professional installation programs that are digitally signed. When you download the setup programs from our web site and run them on Windows, the digital signature verifies the file is not altered so you can safely run them.
Depending on your permission settings, when you run the setup program, you are prompted to allow the program to install itself along with "FMS, Inc." as the verified publisher. Select Yes to continue.
Note that our installation programs comply with Windows protocol so they appear in your Control Panel list of installed programs where you can uninstall them.
Digital Signatures for our Programs
After you install our programs, the digital signatures vary among our products:
Executable (*.EXE) Programs
All our EXE executable programs are digitally signed:
ActiveX Controls
All our ActiveX Control products have OCX files which are digitally signed:
Total Access Components and Total Access Memo also have a royalty-free runtime application. It requires running an EXE once to install its dependencies on each machine that uses it. That EXE is digitally signed.
Office VBA and Visual Basic 6 Code Add-ins
Our add-in products for the Office VBA and Visual Basic 6 (VB6) Integrated Development Environment (IDE) include DLLs which are digitally signed:
- Total Visual CodeTools
- Total Visual SourceBook (the DLLs run the EXE which is digitally signed)
Microsoft Access Add-ins
Microsoft Access add-ins are Access databases with tables and data that change. They are different from EXE, OCX and DLL files which never change. As a result, they cannot be digitally signed. This applies to these products:
- Total Access Analyzer
- Total Access Detective
- Total Access Emailer
- Total Access Speller
- Total Access Statistics
Our Access add-in products are protected to the extent possible by Microsoft Access, similar to the built-in Access add-ins and Wizards:
- Add-in files are in ACCDE and MDE formats to prevent users from seeing and modifying the module code, forms, and reports.
- They are installed in the folder you specify which is set to a trusted location for Access.
- The Professional Version of Total Access Emailer includes a royalty-free runtime VBA library. It requires running an EXE once to install its dependencies on each machine that uses it. That EXE is digitally signed.
