Answer

Yes. FMS product can run on an Azure Virtual Machine (VM) with a Windows operating system. Office, Access and all of our products run on a Windows machine. That machine could be:

• A local PC
• A virtual machine on a PC
• A server on your on-premise network
• A virtual machine hosted in the cloud

Our products would not know or behave differently based on the machine running it.

A VM on the Cloud May Not Be Able to Interact with Your Network Files

A virtual machine hosted in the Azure cloud is not the same as a PC on your internal, on-premise network. The Azure VM cannot see or use files on the local PC and on-premise network unless network security such as Active Directory is configured and shared among them.

If your Azure VM cannot get to files on your network, our products running in that VM won't either.

Additional Information

Azure has lots of pieces, so it's important to know what one means to migrate to the Azure Cloud. It may have nothing to do with Access. For instance:

1. Using SQL Azure to host individual databases instead of using SQL Server on an on-premise network or purchasing a SQL Server license.
2. Using a Virtual Machine to install SQL Server and host databases.
3. Using a Virtual Machine instead of a local PC.
4. Using a Virtual Machine to host a Remote Desktop/Remote App environment to run Windows applications.
5. Using a Virtual Machine to host a Remote Desktop/Remote App environment to run Access applications on it for one user.
6. Using a Virtual Machine to host a Remote Desktop/Remote App environment to run Access multi-user applications on it.
7. For all of them, configuring Azure resources for a hybrid environment that includes both cloud and on-premise resources.
